Bay Espresso happened for us one rainy, windy Saturday morning in Wellington.
Fate drew us to a tiny ad in the Dominion and within 4 weeks we had bought a cafe, sold our home and moved our family to Hawke's Bay in the quest for better weather (sorry Wellington - we love you really) and the perfect cup of coffee!!! We really had no idea at the time that our lives would be changed forever.
Our hobby of drinking coffees in other peoples cafes had quickly become our way of life and the
quest for coffee nirvana has consumed our every thought since. We love what coffee means to so many people - to sit down and catch up with friends, something to look forward to in your day, a special cup of coffee prepared especially for you.
The past owners had started a fledgling coffee roasting business and we saw a real gap in the market to roast and serve honest organic and ethically traded coffee - coffee that tasted good and felt good.
The world of growing and trading coffee can be very unfair. We think that no matter how large or small our influence can be on the coffee market, if we choose to do the right thing and source the fairest coffee grown with the least environmental impact, then why not?
Best regards, Chris and Jonelle Jarvis
